General Dentistry Treatments

We firmly believe in the adage that prevention is better than cure – which is why our general dentistry treatments prioritise improving the oral health of our patients, and working towards the prevention of future oral health concerns.

Regular dental cleaning and oral exams are the keystone of preventive dentistry, and are crucial to one’s overall health and ensuring that your mouth remains disease-free. Conditions such as gum disease (also known as periodontal disease or periodontitis), have long been linked to heart disease, dementia, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis, amongst others; and oral infections can spread to other parts of your body, including vital organs.

Generally, a patient should have their teeth cleaned and examined at least twice a year. There are also financial benefits to regular dental exams and cleanings, as ensuring that your oral health is in good condition can avoid costly dental procedures later.

An oral examination is performed each time a patient visits our clinic. This serves as a benchmark of one’s overall oral health – comparative to their last visit. During the dental examination, Dr Naidoo will perform a routine visual examination of the oral cavities, and take x-rays in certain instances – using powerful digital radiography equipment to produce a digital image of the patient’s mouth. This is to identify signs of potential illness or disease.

A dental exam also serves the benefit of allowing the dentist to detect signs of: oral cancer, gum disease, and other underlying medical conditions.

Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can stop oral health and potential health problems before they start. Undergoing professional teeth cleaning will effectively eliminate build-ups of plaque, tartar, and bacteria in the mouth. These can develop even if you regularly brush and floss your teeth!

You should never underestimate the importance of good oral health when it comes to your overall well-being. Dental exams and cleanings every six months are generally sufficient for maintaining oral wellness, but this is dependent on the condition of a patient’s oral health.

At ADI we have a strong focus on preventive dentistry, which can help to safeguard your oral and general health with comprehensive check-ups, cleanings, and other preventive treatments.
