We all covet a healthy, bright, and beautiful smile, and thanks to advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, we are able to improve our teeth and smiles with predictable, accurate, painless, and affordable treatments. The objective is to mimic nature and recapture the naturalness of a younger, more rejuvenated smile and gums.
The benefits of cosmetic dental treatments include:
- Changing the size, shape, and alignment of certain teeth
- Improving or correcting bites
- Lightening or brightening the colour and appearance of your teeth and gums
- Replacing missing, decayed or damaged teeth
- Repairing decayed, broken, cracked, or chipped teeth
- Enhancing the overall appearance of one’s facial features
Cosmetic dentistry, also known as ‘aesthetic dentistry’, is all about symmetry, balance, facial harmony, facial flow, dental flow and its connection to holistic, emotional, and biological dentistry The focus with cosmetic dentistry is on ‘art’, more than the actual procedure. It focuses primarily on the overall appearance of the mouth, teeth, gums, and your overall smile. This is achieved through minor fixes, and even major surgeries – for more detailed treatment care.
Some common procedures include:
- Veneers and crowns
- Crown lengthening
- Composite bonding/injection molding techniques
- Dental implants
- Teeth whitening
At ADI, we offer a wide range of cosmetic dental options to assist patients with their aesthetic needs. Contact us to find out more!
They’re favoured by everyone from pop and movie stars, to actual royalty! And porcelain veneers remain the most popular minimally invasive means for cosmetically changing the appearance of one’s teeth. But you don’t have to take a trip to Istanbul to have your own Hollywood smile; at ADI, we specialise in this highly-desired procedure1
Veneers are thin shells (like contact lenses placed superficially over the labial surface of your teeth) of highly-durable porcelain that we bond to your teeth. A veneer can restore a single tooth imperfection, and multiple veneers can be placed on your teeth for a complete smile makeover. Veneers fix various dental issues, including: staining, chipped teeth, old fillings, spacing problems, and an uneven smile
Composite or resin bonding is the quickest and least invasive means for repairing chips, restoring discoloured areas, and reducing spaces in between your teeth. In essence, a resin, coloured to match the natural tooth, is applied to an existing tooth and subsequently hardened with a special light. This material then bonds to the natural tooth.
Some of the most common reasons for composite bonding include:
- Repairing tooth decay
- Reshaping teeth to better fit the overall smile
- Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
- Improving the appearance of discoloured teeth
- Closing gaps or spaces between teeth
There’s a reason that teeth are known as ‘pearly whites’: a bold, bright smile is often the first thing people notice about you. But a combination of factors – including lifestyle factors like smoking, drinking caffeine, etc. – can contribute to the discolouration of one’s teeth over time. That’s where we, the professionals, come in! We offer a range of minimally invasive tooth whitening options – from whitening strips and bleaching options, to specialised toothpastes, and the popular ZOOM whitening treatment – to lighten and brighten your smile!
Dr Naidoo and his team will first assess your teeth whitening needs, before suggesting a detailed treatment plan. ZOOM Teeth Whitening is one such option, and the future of teeth whitening in South Africa and abroad!
This hugely popular treatment can lighten your teeth by up to 8 shades. And it’s all down to science. The treatment involves Dr Naidoo placing a special light over the whitening gel that’s placed on the teeth – which activates the gel’s active ingredient – hydrogen peroxide – which then breaks it down to oxygen – which allows for the teeth to be bleached, while the teeth structure remains intact and unchanged.
NOTE: It’s important to note that this whitening option is only effective on natural teeth – and not on dentures or artificial teeth, fillings, and crowns. Results last from between a month to a year – depending on lifestyle factors such as caffeine drinking and cigarette use.
Tooth whitening is also not permanent. A touch-up may be needed, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
